The Sea Turtle Preservation Society recently announced the grand opening of their new building, the Turtle Nest, located outside Cruise Terminal One in Port Canaveral, Florida.
Florida’s Space Coast is a critical location for sea turtles and their continued survival, as over 50% of three different species of marine turtles make their nests along our shores. That’s why STPS is dedicated to providing information and education opportunities about sea turtles to both visitors and residents, as their conservation efforts don’t just stop in Florida, but are a global effort.
“Brevard Beaches have become synonymous with our love for sea turtles. What we do in our community effects the survival of these turtles worldwide,” said Dave Cheney, a long-time board member and marketing director who personally helps transport injured sea turtles to proper treatment facilities.

Their new location will be filled with educational materials, activities, and information to help you get involved, all staffed by a knowledgeable team of incredibly dedicated volunteers. STPS materials and other sea turtle related merchandise will also be available for sale at the kiosk, with all proceeds from activities and sales helping to fund the organization and their noble mission to preserve one of Florida’s greatest natural treasures.
Port Canaveral is Brevard County’s world-class cruise terminal, ranked as the second busiest cruise port in the US. Find the Turtle Nest along the paved walkway, near Grills Seafood Deck & Tiki Bar. The kiosk will be open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from 10am through 6pm.

The Sea Turtle Preservation Society is an all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to the mission of helping sea turtles survive. Brevard County’s 72-mile long coastline is an exceedingly important habitat for marine turtles, and STPS’ efforts help injured turtles in need, organizes beach cleanups, and raises awareness of the threats sea turtles face today.
A primary focus of the organization is to also educate the public about marine turtles, and the common threats to their survival. The group reaches thousands of people every year through public presentations, exhibits at area events, and by their turtle watches during nesting season. The Turtle Krawl, their annual 5k Run/Walk, is the largest 5k race in Brevard County, with all proceeds going to their continued mission.
